President George W. Bush toured ECD Ovonics' United Solar Ovonic solar cell manufacturing facility in Auburn Hills, Michigan. President Bush's visit coincided with his energy initiatives highlighted in his previous month’s State of the Union address.
President Bush and his staff were welcomed by Robert C. Stempel, Chairman and CEO of Energy Conversion Devices, on behalf of the men and women of ECD Ovonics and its affiliated organizations.
Subhendu Guha, President of United Solar Ovonic, accompanied the President as he toured United Solar Ovonic's football-field long proprietary continuous web triple-junction solar cell manufacturing machine, explaining the science behind its thin-film amorphous silicon solar cell technology and how the stainless steel is fed through the machine to manufacture photovoltaic solar cells continuously by the mile and by the ton.
