Nancy M. Bacon, ECD Ovonics senior vice president, joined U.S. Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez and several U.S. business executives on a trade mission to Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador, where she not only promoted ECD Ovonics' proprietary solar and NiMH battery products in Central America, but also talked about "alleviating energy poverty."

Ms. Bacon was invited to participate in the CompromisoCentroAmérica "CBI" Trade and Investment Forum, titled A Common Destiny — a Caribbean-Central American Action (CCAA) regional conference hosted by CCAA, in collaboration with the Guatemalan Ministry of Economy, its PRONACOM entity, the U.S. Department of Commerce, and the USAID. Ms. Bacon was a panelist at the Energy Roundtable — representing the industry sector, energy infrastructure. This by-invitation-only event was anticipated to help launch the business development mission of over 30 U.S. corporations to Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras led by Secretary Gutierrez to explore DR-CAFTA opportunities for U.S. businesses.

Ms. Bacon spoke about "Addressing Energy Poverty — Transmission & Off Grid Electric Power Applications." Click here to download a copy of her presentation.

This was the first trade mission to the region since the Central American-Dominican Republic Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA-DR), which is designed to reduce trade barriers between America and Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic, and
El Salvador. It creates the second-largest export market in Latin America for U.S. goods.
